What is the Wellcentra Program? For individual patients, Wellcentra is a voluntary prescription benefit program that provides select brand-name medications at zero copay. It works alongside your existing prescription benefit plan, not as a replacement. For self-insured businesses, the Wellcentra Program is a value-added service that offers significant savings over domestically-sourced prescription medications.
-
How does Wellcentra offer zero copay medications?Wellcentra sources specialty medications from government-licensed pharmacies in Canada, the EU, the UK, and Australia, where the same brand-name drugs are available at substantially lower prices than in the United States. These cost savings are passed on to participants through zero copays.
-
Where do the medications come from? All medications are sourced from medications sourced from trusted partners that have safety and licensing regulations equivalent to or, in some cases, stricter than U.S. standards. The medications are: - Packaged by the original manufacturer - Distributed by government-regulated wholesalers - Prescribed by practicing healthcare providers - Labeled and dispensed by licensed pharmacists - Delivered directly to patients
-
Are the medications different from US versions?Wellcentra’s program sources the name-brand medication from the same manufacturers that are available in the U.S. market and prescribed by your providers. For a variety of reasons, including high costs, these medications may not be available in the U.S., so the FDA allows individuals to import these necessary and life-saving medications from abroad. While the medications may occasionally look slightly different or have different names, they are functionally identical to US versions. For example, a medication might be available as a tablet internationally but as a capsule in the US. All medications accessed through Wellcentra’s network are manufactured in FDA-approved facilities and dispensed by licensed pharmacists.
